A Weekend Escape or Something More...

By Helen Pentith  //  Fri 26th January 2018
During the holidays, and half term is on the horizon already,  children can all too easily fall into the routine of getting up late in the day and plonking themselves in front of the television until the early hours of the morning, sometimes never even seeing the light of day! But, often, this is simply down to the fact that there isn’t much else for them to do. Their friends might be away with their families, there might not be many clubs or activities for them to partake in in your local area, or they might have just grown tired of doing the same thing every year. Finding something that they want to get up off the sofa for is not only better for them mentally and physically, but it can be a great opportunity for all the family to enjoy quality time together.

Being able to bring your grandchildren away for the weekend is the perfect solution to ensure they get out of the house. WIth a new area to explore, people to meet and environment to settle in, you are already offering them much greater variety than if you had simply stayed at home. But how about Investing in a holiday home, which means you always have a base available to use.  One of our Hollicarrs timber lodges at Escrick Park will provide you and your family with the opportunity of a holiday guaranteed to include lots of family fun. With an abundance of activities to take part in, as well as a beautiful park to explore at your leisure, you can decide the pace of your holiday, and change it as it suits. Here are five family activities that could be available on your doorstep at Escrick Park...

Tennis
Whether you are a sporty, active or competitive family, or simply keen to try something new, Escrick Park can provide you with everything you need to enjoy a day of tennis. The floodlighting means you can play any time of the year, and equipment as well as coaching are available on request. Forget Wimbledon, you can begin your own tournament!

Horse riding
What’s the best way to explore the beautiful landscape and encourage the whole family to do so with you? Horse riding! Escrick Park provides over 26 miles of off road, peaceful hacking for both horse and rider, with an optional 45 obstacle jumping course too! Whether you’re all beginners or a family of horse riding experts, you can ride with an instructor or take to the countryside just you and your horses.

Walking
How many times have you tried to convince your children to come for a walk with you on a Sunday? Well, at Escrick Park, they’ll be asking you! With a wealth of wildlife to discover and wonderful natural landscapes to explore, epic treasure hunts and hikes will definitely be on the cards. Stroll through bluebell dells, primrose banks, past the bird hides and toward the natural ponds that are teeming with life. Nature trails will lead you the most beautiful places, but why not go off the path and see what else you can find?

Cycling
Escrick Park provides bicycles for hire and cycle paths for you to follow, should you prefer to take the family out on a fast-paced mountain ride than explore the woodland by horse or foot. Alternatively, you could also cycle into nearby towns, via traffic-free cycle paths, or even journey all the way in the beautiful city of York where you will discover even more things to do as a family. You could enjoy a trip the cinema, explore the cathedral or walk the city walls!

Fishing
Instead of being sat in front of the television not doing very much at all, why not enjoy some quality family time, sat fishing by the lake? The fishing lake is only a short walk from the lodge park and provides a sheltered, well-stocked fishing experience for beginners and experts alike. There are often exciting fishing competitions held throughout the season and there is always expert advice and equipment available to ensure you land the perfect fish. You could even take a picnic!

The activities we have listed are just a mere few of the many available in and around Escrick Park. Just a short distance away, you will discover museums, more woodland, ancient ruins, and even the coast! By owning your very own holiday lodge at Escrick Park, you can be sure your family never has a dull half term again. Why not enquire about the Hollicarrs today?
