As Britons used to dreary weather, frantic commutes to the office and little time for peace and quiet, we spend our whole year researching the best holidays abroad and saving large amounts of money to put toward expensive flights and fancy villas. What we tend to forget is that there is a wealth of beautiful and idyllic holiday hotspots right here in Britain that don’t require us to spend silly money to simply relax, explore or enjoy a change of scenery. Of course, to find the perfect British destination will still depend on a little research, but luckily, we’ve done that for you. Take a look at our top British hotspots and see if you don’t want to holiday here this year...

Woolacombe, North Devon

How does a three-mile stretch of golden sand and glittering blue sea sound? The beautiful North Devon coast offers a wide range of activities and natural attractions to enjoy. Not only are its beaches ideal for a spot of sun worshipping, but it’s Blue Flag status makes is the perfect location for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and serious bucket and spade digging! Aside from the beach, Woolacombe boasts an array of restaurants and bars as well as hidden coves, national parks and rare maritime heathland.

Glenridding, Lake District

If you think relaxing is better done in the bath, then Glenridding is the place for you. Popular with walkers, there are trails for all ages and levels - and there’s little chance of exhausting them! If you’re really up for a challenge, why not take on the Helvellyn, England’s third highest mountain, and enjoy the magnificent scenery whilst you’re up there. If eventually you find that your legs need a rest, you can recover on a cruise along Ullswater or visit Aira Force and discover the 60ft waterfall.

Southwold, Suffolk

There’s only one road in and one road out of this blissful little town. Encircled by the North Sea, River Blyth, Southwold harbour and Buss Creek, you could feel like you’ve entered another country - or an Enid Blyton novel! You can enjoy crabbing in Walberswick village, touring the working lighthouse and frolicking on the sand and shingle beaches before unwinding in one of the quaint little tea rooms or inspiring art galleries. Southwold also boasts a fun-filled pier, putting green and some fantastically grand hotels.

St Andrew’s, Scotland

Biking enthusiasts will love the network of safe cycling routes that span this pretty town, but that’s not all St. Andrew’s is popular for. Famous for its golf courses and beautiful beaches, after a morning of golf why not spend your afternoon trying your hand at land yachting or power kiting? You can also explore St. Andrew’s Botanic Garden and the local aquarium and make the most of the fact that St. Andrew’s is one of the driest, sunniest places in Scotland!

Bamburgh, Northumberland

Bamburgh sits between countryside and sea and is famous for being shortlisted for Britain’s Best Beach and its imposing 12th century castle. It’s large beach, traditional pubs, popular restaurants and gorgeous holiday cottages invite a lot of visitors and make it an ideal holiday destination for groups. Take a drive to Holy Island, get a boat from Seahouses to the Farne Islands or explore the Grace Darling Museum - you won’t fall short of things to do in Bamburgh.

These are just five of the ideal holiday destinations Britain has to offer - but how do you fancy enjoying all of those summery activities any day of the week while having the opportunity to relax by a river or lake during your lunch break?
