The clocks changing herald the start of winter activities: from autumnal walks in the park to Halloween parties and bonfire night. We all know that this is just the lead-up, however, to the magical month of December. Escrick Park is a stunning place to visit during winter, and is all the more magical during the festive season. Here are the top five things we’re looking forward to over the Christmas period…

Winter wildlife at Skipwith Common

Set amongst frosty branches and evergreen leaves, keep your eyes peeled for the traditionally festive red-breasted robins flitting between trees. A lot of animals hide away in the colder months, but a stroll through Skipwith Common will herald plenty of delights – such as our rare breeds of hardy Hebridean sheep and longhorn cattle. You’ll also be able to see the classic wintery scene of deer in fresh snow, if you’re lucky!

Winter weddings

Escrick Park is a wedding venue all year around, and it is never more magical than during winter. The festive decorations really make the place come alive while the cosy atmosphere lends itself to an intimate occasion with family and friends. We love putting together the perfect wedding days for our happy couples, and designing enjoy nothing more than making their winter-themed wedding ideas become a reality. Winter wonderlands, ice sculptures, blue and silver colour schemes, festive menus – winter is a very special time of year to tie the knot.

Horse riding

Not just a summer activity, horse riders can access our rideways all year around, and taking a trot through frosted fields on a sunny morning is really quite something. Are winter rideways offer a challenge for all levels of rider – from those who simply want a glimpse of nature from horseback to experienced riders in search of a bracing day in the saddle. Winter is a unique time of year, and Escrick Park is a perfect setting for off-road hacking in a peaceful rural environment.

Hollicarrs holiday lodges

If you are considering buying a holiday home in Yorkshire, take a break away from city stresses in the run-up to the often-stressful Christmas period. Escrick Park is host to the Hollicarrs timber frame lodges, where you can stay for three nights for just £295 in the ‘Try before you Buy’ lodge and make the most of the peaceful surroundings. A few quiet days surrounded by nature – and with plenty of trails and places to visit – will be sufficient to recharge your batteries before the onslaught of the December work rush and the busy Christmas social calendar.

The Christmas spirit

We love nature, which is just as well because it is everywhere at Escrick Park! One of the best things about being on the estate during the winter season is being able to meet lots of like-minded people, who love taking their time on nature trails, having a go at off-road hacking or are taking the time to tie the knot in rural splendour. Coming in from the beautiful, yet cold, landscape to the warmth of our stunning facilities is made all the more special by the visitors and staff on the estate. Local businesses that have their offices on the estate make the most of the surroundings, too, and it feels like a big family. Everyone gets into the festive spirit, which becomes increasingly irresistible as December rolls around.
