Going away on holiday is a time to relax, unwind and escape your daily routine, but it needn’t be an opportunity to slack on your fitness regime! While there might not be a gym where you are staying, there are still things that you could do to keep fit and avoid falling out of your routine.  A recent survey revealed that more than 50 per cent of people put on weight when they go on holiday, so if you’d rather be in the healthier minority, it’s important that you keep active. At Escrick Park, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy that could help you and your family or friends remain fit and healthy while holidaying in your timber lodge in Yorkshire…

Tennis

Most holiday parks will boast a tennis court or a gym with a court in, but at Escrick Park, amidst the fantastic woodland, you’ll find a hard tennis court that is flood-lit, which will enable you to play throughout the year. As most holidaymakers might not think to take their gym or tennis equipment away with them, there is equipment available for borrowing from reception, as well as tennis coaching if it is needed. Playing tennis for up to an hour can burn up to 408 calories and provides a great full-body workout.

Hiking

Escrick Park Estate is a beautiful natural sanctuary surrounded by vast amounts of woodland and rolling fields. With wildlife available at every turn and various nature paths to explore, taking a hike with family or friends is a great way to keep fit and take in the Yorkshire countryside at the same time. No matter the season, you can enjoy a morning or afternoon walk through the woods or into the nearby villages - shopping is exercise after all!

Horseriding

Horseriding is one of the most exciting ways to keep fit, and many argue that it’s one of the most fun too. While you might not consider it exercise, riding correctly can help to exercise your abdominal muscles, your calves, arms and even your bottom! You’ll work your stomach muscles as you stabilise and support your upper body, and your legs as you try to stay on the horse. There are several off-road riding paths surrounding Escrick Park, so you could explore new areas each day.

Cycling

Wherever you go on holiday, it’s likely there will be bicycles to borrow or rent. While cycling can be a great way to keep fit, it’s also a lovely way to explore the area. Cycling is becoming an increasingly popular to stay in shape and can be enjoyed both leisurely and as a way to burn some serious calories. At Escrick Park, there is a range of bicycles available for hire and a number of tracks to take in the area. Why not ride into the City of York and treat yourself to a well-deserved milkshake or coffee after a long journey?

When you visit your rural holiday home at Escrick Park, you can enjoy yourself while still maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle – no excuses!
