Management and Motivation: how to get the most from your office staff

In today’s complex and manic urban environment, commercial success depends on your employees’ dedication and their ability to use their talents fully. While technology can be relied upon for many things and a rural office can make a great impression, when it comes down to the success of a business, employees are always at the centre. It is your employees that represent the company, interface with customers, create the product and deliver the service, and it is up to the manager to ensure that they do so to their best ability. By making the conscious decision to try to motivate your staff, you’ve already taken the first step: recognising their importance within the business. Keeping your employees in the loop of what is going on in the business is great way to make them feel as though they are part of the larger team. You should always aim to keep them informed on business matters, as this will motivate them to contribute in staff meetings and help them to better understand the company and the goals they must achieve.


Rewarding your staff is key to showing your appreciation and motivating them to work harder to meet deadlines and expectations. If you are based in a rural office, you can promise them a lunchtime filled with activity, should they work hard enough to earn it, or treat your entire staff to a day of team building in the countryside. If your office is based in the city, the promise of a weekend spent away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a holiday cottage might be just what they need to motivate them.


In a rural setting, you can rely on the vast amounts of countryside and wildlife to provide you with the space and time you need to clear your head and find inspiration, but when your employees are stuck inside a stuffy office in the middle of a busy city, it can be hard for them to find any.
