Sustrans National Cycle Routes
Firstly, right on our doorstep is the Sustrans Cycle Route.  Running south from the walled historic city of York this cycle route takes you on a mainly traffic-free path through the flat, arable landscape of the Vale of York to Riccall and on towards Selby. A perfect route for families and novice cyclists.  The route uses the trackbed of the old East Coast Mainline railway, which was bought by Sustrans for £1 and turned into one of its very first traffic-free paths. The history of the path is told by ‘Railway to Greenway’, a series of interpretation boards along the route.

Dalby Forest, Yorkshire
The Dalby Forest mountain bike trail centre provides you with a number of routes to choose from, providing different challenges for people of all abilities. No matter what the weather, you’ll be able to tackle one of the Dalby trails and in the summer the forest becomes particularly busy. You can choose between the green, blue, red and black routes, each one offering various terrains and adventures. There is also a cool bike park with jumps for you to attempt, as well as a lovely café for refreshments.

Sutton Bank National Parks Centre

3-mile 'Cliff Trail' (green), great for families and beginners.  Off-road adventures on the more challenging 'Fort' (blue, 5.5 or 7.5 mile options), 'Drovers' (blue, 10 miles) and 'Paradise' (red, 17.5 miles) trails.  Test yourself in the 'skills area'

Calderdale, Yorkshire
The Mary Towneley Loop, near Calderdale, offers a real challenge to the most professional of cyclists, due both to the fact that it is a 47-mile stretch and that it leads you twice across the Pennines! If you’re a professional cyclist or are up for a real challenge, this is the trail for you to follow. It tests endurance, strength and willpower, and is worth doing with a partner or friend for moral support. It’s certainly a trail you can feel proud for accomplishing at the en
