The perks of a rural office environment

By Helen Pentith  //  Thu 31st January 2013

What comes to mind when you think of your ideal office to let? For most people, 'the office' is associated with a frantic city centre commute, oppressive high rises, stark overhead lighting and deadline day stress. While it's still the norm for most contemporary professions, this kind of atmosphere isn't particularly conducive to productivity and staff equilibrium. Here at Escrick Park, we think that the traditional office environment is one of the main reasons why so many people are dissatisfied in the workplace. Could letting a rural office really change your employees' relationship with work for the better?

A negative atmosphere breeds negative results

Human beings are animals like any other, and all animals need to feel comfortable in their day to day environments if they are to behave naturally and normally. The traditional office environment is not the kind of atmosphere where human beings can feel most comfortable, as the everyday stresses of work are compounded by the morning commute, the hustle and bustle of the city and the looming presence of artificial, manmade structures. This kind of atmosphere only encourages work-related stress, increasing the average number of annual sick days and costing your company money.

A lack of human needs results in staff dissatisfaction

York and Leeds may not have the same oppressive urban atmosphere as London or Manchester, but even offices to let in Yorkshire can often fail to provide workers with the human needs they require on a daily basis. Many commercial offices suffer from a deficit of natural light, with most city centre buildings surrounded by other properties which prevent sunlight from penetrating the windows on a regular basis. We all need vitamin D from sunlight to keep our skin healthy, and a lack of natural light can also bring about depression as a result of Seasonal Affective Disorder. It isn't just sunlight but space, too, that's at a premium in the city. Commercial office blocks are crammed in alongside one another on overpopulated streets, where cars and pedestrians vie for superiority. Popping outside on a lunch or coffee break rarely provides a respite from the stresses of the office.

A viable alternative to improve working practices

Some people see this view of office work as a necessary evil - if you want your employees to remain productive and professional then the commercial office environment is the only way to do so. But what if there was an alternative? What if you could experience the convenience and inclusiveness of an office environment with the stress-free natural beauty of the countryside? Here at Escrick Park, we have a large number of rural offices to let, providing office workers with a professional environment more conducive to work, health and happiness. Our offices are set in beautiful natural surroundings, so employees can feel the stresses of the humdrum workaday world melt away to be replaced by contentment, comfort and equilibrium. Take a look at the rural commercial properties to let on our website and benefit from greater office productivity and staff satisfaction in future!
