Three reasons why the Yorkshire countryside is the place to be this summer

Love Yorkshire

The Yorkshire countryside is some of the most beautiful in Britain. At all times of year there’s beauty to be found in the North York Moors, the Dales and plenty of other places besides. There’s a reason why the Hollicarrs – our timber holiday lodges near York – are so popular. Yorkshire is a county with everything. Easy to get to from the South and packed with cultural and historical gems, not mention natural wonders, Yorkshire is the perfect place to visit for a day trip or a weeklong stay. This summer, the region is in particularly fine form. If you want another excuse to visit Yorkshire, here are a few for you to choose from…

It’s not only the Grand Depart that’s taking place in Yorkshire this year. There are many other events taking place across the county. We spoke about some of the highlights of the county’s event calendar in a recent post on the Escrick Park blog, with highlights including the Great Yorkshire Show, Feva (Knaresborough’s entertainment and arts festival) and York’s very own marathon. Yorkshire is also home to many food and drink festivals and farmers’ markets, so if the weather turns against you then you’ll always find plenty to enjoy in the county’s many towns and cities.

National Parks

Yorkshire contains two vast National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. The Dales are a series of picturesque valleys, rolling hills and the occasional mountain for walkers to conquer. With its telltale dry stone walls and limestone features plus impressive waterfalls such as those at Aysgarth, the Yorkshire Dales make the perfect destination for a family day out. Far more accessible than the Lake District, the Dales offer almost as much challenge to determined hikers and fell-runners. The North York Moors may be less well known that the Dales, but they’re certainly worth a visit. Bleak and desolate in winter, the Moors come to life in the summer sun. Aside from the heather moorlands, the national park also contains some of the most beautiful coastal areas in the country. If the weather’s set fair, be sure to head out to the moors!

Yorkshire is such a large region that it’s no wonder there’s plenty of variety. We’ve already talked about the boundless variety offered by Yorkshire’s physical landscape, but you’ll also see variety in the architecture, culture, and even the weather of this great county. If you’ve seen enough of one part of Yorkshire, head 50 miles in another direction and you’ll soon find somewhere new and interesting to explore.

The Escrick Park Estate manages the Hollicarrs, a group of timber holiday lodges in the heart of Yorkshire and just a short drive away from York. The lodges contain all the facilities you’d expect, and are set in truly unforgettable surroundings. Our park holds a five-star Visit Britain award, and we were also awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation. To find out more about the Hollicarrs, give us a call or send us an email – we’d love to talk to you!
