Winter Weddings

By Helen Pentith  //  Wed 18th December 2019

Here are the reasons that wintertime wedding work rather well!

The Marquee
Despite the traditional marquee being foreseen as a ‘summertime’ structure, now a days modern marquees are built to keep in the heat and even have their own natural heating, such as fire pits and wood burners to provide an abundance of warmth. Background heating is also often provided with power from quietly running generators on the outside. On a cold, crisp day, there really is no cosier place to bunker up, yet still enjoy lovely open views of the local countryside . It will give your guests a very warm and cosy feeling, whilst still enjoying the great outdoors. Do look at our favourite providers of tents on our website.

Food & Beverages
Hearty hot food and drinks can be served to keep your guests warm on the inside too, consider mulled wine or gin, hot pimms, or even a steaming mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.  There is plenty of options for good warming winter food such as chilli chicken hot pot or sizzling Korean style beef, or what about a curry fest! Check out our suggested caterers for inspiration for your winter wedding ideas. Caterers are very happy to make suggestions to fit in with your theme and style.

Lighting & Decoration

Winter early dusk can be so romantic and allows you a beautiful opportunity to light up your marquee and entrance. This gives your day a real wow factor as everyone arrives at the venue for the afternoon, to strings of twinkling lights on branches adorning your marquee bringing the outside in and stunning. Glowing candles, fire pits, warm blankets can all be added to give that cosy feel.  Your marquee provider can usually source everything you need from lights to glitter balls, fire pits to reindeer skins, so do see what they have to offer. Go green and deck your tent with Ivy and Holly strewn with winter berries and conkers and acorns, such a simple but stunning look and a real change from the summer flower look.

The Dress

There are so many options for making yourself winter beautiful for your special day, sumptuous fabrics, fur trimmed capes, soft woollen wraps and beautiful velvet gowns with cloaks looks simply stunning. Long sleeved bridesmaid dresses in deep rich colours topped with little fur boleros also looks so pretty and complete the winter look.

Out of season pricing
Because you are booking outside the ‘wedding season’ you will find that most outdoor events providers will offer really reasonable pricing, so your marquee and outdoor bars and fittings will cost you far less in the winter months.

So, be innovative and stand out from the crowd and create a really different occasion by getting away from the overly organised hotel booking.
