Hollicarrs craft ladies lend a helping hand to York Scrubs!
York Scrubs is a community project providing vital personal protective equipment to front line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As soon as the ladies heard about the project from a close friend they decided to look into it. Margaret got in touch with them to see how they could help...
Little did they know what they were getting into!

As soon as Margaret knew what was needed she put an appeal at on a WhatsApp group asking for volunteers to help with sewing and cutting. She recruited an amazing team of 11 lovely ladies (and a few husbands). The age range of the ladies were between 60 and 80 years young.
The ladies were all aware of the great job the NHS do and are what they are having to deal with during this terrible crisis. A few know only to well as they have been involved with working for the NHS in the past and now some of their families do too.
One of the biggest challenges the group faced was the difficulty in getting supplies in the quantities and on the timescale they needed. They set about fundraising to buy a huge supply of threads for all the seamstresses across York to use!
The small team at Hollicarrs did an amazing job and went above and beyond what they initially thought they were going to do. They made 28 hospital scrubs, 225 mask bags, cut 200 mask front covers and made 930 bunting pieces, the bunting went up around York on VE Day and will be used again for future events.
The ladies quoted " What York Scrubs have achieved in such a short time is absolutely amazing. It has been a joy and a privilege to be part of such a wonderful project. We hope and pray to be able meet up sometime in the near future. Stay safe, keep well and be true to you."
